Food Expo

Couple of weeks ago, my friends and I visited an expo held by the Central Java Government, especially the agricultural department. This event brought a lot of stands of food products coming from several regions in this province. They came with variations of crop products which can be considered creative, alternative and hopefully healthy, such as made from carrot, celery, pumpkin, sweet potato, banana, potato, fish and meat, and many more.

Here are some tasty foods I successfully brought home:

"Coffee makes it possible to get out of bed, but chocolate makes it worthwhile."

Chocolate has been known for centuries in its various kinds. Even from health side it is said that chocolate is a vegetable, " Chocolate is a Vegetable: chocolate is derived from cocoa beans. Bean = vegetable. Sugar is derived from either sugar cane or sugar beets. Both are plants, which places them in the vegetable category. Thus, chocolate is a vegetable. To go one step further, chocolate candy bars also contain milk, which is dairy. So candy bars are a health food."

And there is one place here I'd like to talk about, still related to chocolate because the place provide us with various pleasures made from chocolate: Rumah Coklat (Chocolate House). It is located in Cik Ditiro St. No. 19, Yogyakarta Indonesia.

At a glance, you will see a garden shape cafe with several wooden chairs and tables that have umbrella. Also,  some fish ponds and artificial waterfalls seem refreshing, accompanied by plants and flowers. Enter the shop, your eyes will see some comfy colorful sofas, where you can sit and talk for hours or just working with your computers and surfing the internet. The interior decorations are varied from everything-about-chocolate, books, cars, motorbikes, etc. At the counter, you can pick cakes that you want, whether mix cakes with coffee, waffle or ice creams.


You can find chocolate in beverages (hot and chill) and also cakes. To name some are  Volcano Choco Melt, Choco Cake Ice Cream, Spicy Hot Chocolate, Opera Cake, Hot Belgian  Chocolate, Oreo pancake, Choco mistery or Black Forest on Winter, Cocoa Ice Pudding, Strawberry Velvet Oreo, and more.

I picked the Hot Belgian Chocolate. It was served with two spoons: one real spoon and one chocolate spoon! It was delicious.  

If you incidentally are not a chocolate lover, don't worry, this place also offers numerous choices coffee lovers, juices, snacks, etc. Plus, it is also a hotspot area.

Ramen eating

My sister and me has such a special culinary habit of trying new food and, of course, new eating places in my town. And this time is for "ramen".

Ramen is  a Japanese noodle soup or dish that originated in China. It is served in a meat- or fish-based broth, often flavored with soy sauce or miso, and uses toppings such as sliced pork, dried seaweed, green onions, and occasionally corn.

We pass the place everyday and last couple days we saw a new small red sign with the picture of a bowl with a chopstick and noodle. We decided to visit the place next day to have our lunch. Later we know that this place is one of franchise's branch, means it has several other stores in other cities.

Reading the menu we found Local Ramen and Import Ramen; Original Ramen, Chicken Ramen, Beef  Ramen, Egg Ramen, Seafood Ramen, and the combinations of them. As several places in Indonesia thus there isn't any pork in the menu and there is a sign of "halal" (allowed or permitted for Muslims). For the price, it can be said above the average level :p.

Actually I wanted to try seafood ramen but it was out of order and in fact my sister can't stand of seafood things. So, finally we chose chicken import one. It's served in a big white bowl, a pair of chopstick, and a white Chinese soup spoon. The smell was so tempting, though the appearance quite not what we've expected: Noodle with its broth, three "quite small" pieces of chicken crispy, corn, dried seaweed slices, and instead of onion we get boiled mustard greens.

At first, the taste will be strange perhaps our tongue is not used to it (we often have our local chicken noodle or Chinese noodle), especially for my sister where she was really convinced that the soup was made of fish or seafood, even she could tell it from the aroma. That's why she couldn't finish it. Well, for me, I left the bowl empty only with some drips of soup hehehe. Yet, I was extremely starving that time :p
